Kemal Erkan, Executive Director

Kemal Erkan CEO and President of United Medical, LLC a Healthcare management network offers an extensive background with over 11 years of experience in healthcare management, in areas of: electronic medical record (EMR), accountable care organization management, medical practice administration and medical billing. In addition, he is recognized for being instrumental in developing new undergraduate and graduate Healthcare Management concentration and majors at Goldey-Beacom College.

Mr. Erkan holds a BS in business administration from Ankara University in Turkey and dual MBAs in Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Finance from Goldey-Beacom College in Delaware. In addition, he is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He serves on the Cerner™ Electronic Medical Record Advisory Board and the Cerner™ Practice Management Advisory Board.

Additionally, Mr. Erkan is active in community affairs, community education and government relations. He is an active member of the Goldey –Beacom Alumni Board and Employer Advisory Board. He is a member of the Delaware Democratic Party Chairman’s Club and served on Governor Markell’s transition committee. He has served on the finance committees for Senator Senator Chris Coons, US Representative John Carney and Governor Jack Markell.

Dr. Raafat Z. Abdel-Misih is the director of the Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Multidisciplinary Center at Christiana Care's Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. He has also served as chief of Surgical Services for Christiana Care since 1995 and as vice chair of the Department of Surgery since 1993.

A surgeon since 1981, Dr. Abdel-Misih is board-certified in general surgery and has a particular interest in head and neck cases, surgical oncology and laparoscopy/endoscopy. He is clinical assistant professor of surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Dr. Abdel-Misih had extensive training in Britain as well as the Unites States. Since completing his surgical training, he has performed more than 30,000 operations, including over 3,000 procedures on the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

He is recognized as a master surgeon by his colleagues and as an outstanding teacher by his students, as reflected in his four-time Teacher of the Year Award. He holds fellowship in both the Royal College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.

A board-certified surgeon, Michael K. Conway, M.D. is chief of Christiana Care's general surgery section. Dr. Conway also is also medical director of operating room surgical physician assistants at Christiana Care.

A 1989 graduate of Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Conway completed his postgraduate surgical residency in 1993 at the Medical Center of Delaware, now Christiana Care. He was chief resident from 1993-1994.

Dr. Conway spent two years in private practice before co-founding Delaware Surgical Group in 1996. He is currently president of the practice, which specializes in laparoscopic procedures for hernias and gallbladder surgery.

During his distinguished career at Christiana Care and in private practice, Dr. Conway has received a number of clinical and academic appointments. He is a clinical professor of medicine at Jefferson College of Medicine, an advanced trauma life support instructor and a member of Christiana Care Health System's teaching staff.

He serves on a number of hospital-based committees including the general surgery advisory board, the surgical education committee and the medical leadership council.

He is a member of the Medical Society of Delaware, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Gastroendoscopic Surgeons.

Dr. Bennett joined the staff at Christiana Care's Helen F. Graham Cancer Center in 2005, following his completion of a two-year clinical fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He had completed a two-year research fellowship at the same institution in 2000. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Bennett received his medical degree and graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York Health Sciences at Brooklyn (SUNY HSCB) in 1996. He received a bachelor's degree in chemistry with honors at Colgate University, Hamilton, NY in 1992.

While studying at SUNY HSCB, he received an Endowed Honor Scholarship Award for superb performance during all four years of medical school, and he also was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Bennett is currently a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.

Caitlyn Halbert, D.O., M.S.

Caitlin Halbert, DO MS is a General Surgeon with an interest in Bariatric and Foregut surgery.

After completing a Masters of Science in Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Halbert received her medical education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She went on to complete her General Surgery residency training at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware. She then received specialty training at Stony Brook University Hospital, completing a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery.

Dr. Halbert specializes in bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and roux-en-y gastric bypass. Her practice also includes foregut surgery, with a focus on the treatment of achalasia, gastrointestinal reflux disease, and hiatal and diaphragmatic hernias.
Dr. Halbert is actively involved in national organizations, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery (SAGES) and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). She has authored several publications and has presented at a number of regional and national conferences. Patient safety and quality of care is at the center of her personal philosophy. Peter M. Santoro, M.D.

Dr. Santoro is a native Delawarean. He is a graduate of St. Mark's High School ('99) here in Delaware as well as the University of Delaware. He attended St. George's University School of Medicine where he graduated magna cum laude in 2009. He continued his training at Christiana Care completing his residency in 2014, also serving as Chief resident from 2013-2014. In addition, since finishing his residency, Dr. Santoro has completed advanced training in robotic and single site robotic surgery.

Dr. Santoro is a board certified General Surgeon and specializes in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques including robotic surgery for inguinal hernias and gallbladder problems. His interests also include complex ventral hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction, surgical oncology and breast surgery, surgical dermatology, endoscopy, and colorectal surgery.
